Strategies adopted to achieve ODF status

Strengthening Rewards and Promoting Competition

A strong need for reward system was felt to keep the villagers and motivators working and competition between different villages was also important towards this end. It too evolved over time as indicated by the following:

•         Appreciation letters were issued for the good job done.

•         Such letters were also given to village panchayat members.

•         Continuous encouragement as a reward was used for all involved.

•         The Sarpanch of Kaluana declared that if any person from any village could show any filth or dirt in their village, a reward of Rs.11,000 would be given. 

•         Consequently sarpanch from another village wanted to know on what basis other village is ranked at number one. A request was made to send a team to their village to find status and verify the ranks.
